About Me

I have been playing the piano and cello since I was a child. At school I gained my Grade 8 Cello, Grade 7 Piano and Grade 8 Music Theory and did A-levels in Music, Maths and Further Maths. I went on to study Maths at Manchester University and then started a career in Computing and IT.

Throughout my time working in IT I continued playing and studying music. I have been playing with the Manchester Beethoven Orchestra since 1990 and have played in various chamber groups and other local orchestras. I am an active member of the Manchester branch of the Society of Recorder Players.

In 2006 I started helping with the year two music classes at my local infant school and discovered that I preferred it to my day job. When I started helping with the junior school orchestra in 2007 I was hooked. I took a few pupils at first and then gave up my IT job to take my Grade 8 piano and to study for a Certificate of Teaching from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, which I achieved in July 2008.

From then on my teaching practice built steadily and I now teach piano, violin and cello full time. I teach at various Moorlands Junior, Saint Anne’s Primary and Worthington primary schools in Sale and I run the school orchestra at Moorlands Junior School. I am happy to teach adults as well as children. I also taught the recorder at Templemoor Infant School in Sale from 2009 – 2020.

I moved to Romiley, Stockport in 2019 and give private lessons at my home on Mondays and Wednesdays after school and during the school day.
